Basler AG, a leading supplier of computer vision products, has joined the 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA). The company is the first from the machine vision sector to support the initiative.

Basler is a leading international manufacturer of high-quality imaging components for computer vision applications. In addition to classic area scan and line scan cameras, lenses, frame grabbers, light modules, and software, the company offers embedded vision modules and solutions, 3D products, as well as customized products and consulting services. Basler’s products are used in a variety of markets and applications, including factory automation, medical, logistics, retail, and robotics.

The Alliance aims to bring together various industries from the Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) sectors to develop standards for 5G. This is intended to promote further technological development and simplify cooperation between different IT/OT providers across industries and national borders.

René von Fintel, Director Products Business at Basler, explains, “We are pleased to be part of the 5G-ACIA Industrial Alliance. We are convinced that 5G will be an important building block in the further development of Industrie 4.0 communication and IoT or IIoT connectivity”.

“5G will become an important wireless communication technology and standard in industry, opening doors for new use cases such as vision for mobile robots or for preventive maintenance. As an image processing specialist, we would like to help ensure that the ever-growing field of computer vision is an active participant.”

As the first camera manufacturer in the member group, Basler supports the platform in bringing together the fields of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) and establishing 5G in the industrial sector.
